The Making Arizona Competitive in the 21st Century (MAC 21) Category award is recognition of multi-disciplinary plans, projects, or programs in which planners are a part of a team, and not necessarily the lead players - as is the case with most APA Arizona awards. The MAC 21 award is more closely tied to community results, generally more quickly implemented, and has a direct connection to making a community economically competitive in the 21st Century. Plans for human service programs, specific development projects, and multi-disciplinary plans are eligible when it is demonstrated that the nomination directly enhances community livability and long-term sustainability.

Achen-Garnder Construction, LLC completed the City of Chandler South Arizona Avenue Corridor Improvements Project in November 2010.
