The South Arizona Avenue Corridor Improvements Project has won the 2011 American Planning Association, Arizona Chapter Award in the Making Arizona Competitive in the 21st Century Category.
The Making Arizona Competitive in the 21st Century (MAC 21) Category award is recognition of multi-disciplinary plans, projects, or programs in which planners are a part of a team, and not necessarily the lead players - as is the case with most APA Arizona awards. The MAC 21 award is more closely tied to community results, generally more quickly implemented, and has a direct connection to making a community economically competitive in the 21st Century. Plans for human service programs, specific development projects, and multi-disciplinary plans are eligible when it is demonstrated that the nomination directly enhances community livability and long-term sustainability.
