Achen-Gardner will be hosting a “Thank Tank” (dunk tank) at our booth.

Chandler Mayor, others to be “dunked” for charity

Chandler, AZ– Chandler’s mayor, two council members, two local high school football coaches and others will bravely sit atop a dunk tank at this weekend’s Downtown Chandler Block Party to raise money for the Desert Cancer Foundation of Arizona.

The dunk tank is being hosted by Achen-Gardner Construction, the title sponsor of Saturday’s noon till 8 p.m. street fair in downtown Chandler.

Mayor Boyd W. Dunn and councilmembers Trinity Donovan and Jack Sellers have agreed to get wet for charity, along with councilmember-elect Kevin Hartke, Hamilton High football coach Steve Belles, Chandler High football coach Jim Ewan, Chandler Chamber of Commerce CEO Dave Warketin, and other city officials, downtown business owners and members of the Achen-Gardner Construction team involved in the recent reconstruction of Arizona Avenue through downtown.

The dunk tank will be one of dozens of fun activities taking place this Saturday afternoon along a closed section of Arizona Avenue between Chandler Boulevard and Frye Road.

The free-admission event will feature more than 100 vendors, a skating rink, Dickens’ carolers, climbing wall, Children’s Fun Zone, live entertainment, and mini classic car show, and showcase the many festivals and special events offered year round downtown.

Plenty of parking awaits Block Party patrons

Chandler, AZ– There will be plenty of convenient, free parking available for patrons of this Saturday’s Achen-Gardner Downtown Chandler Block Party.

Over 4,100 free parking spaces are available in the downtown area, including 800 spaces in surface parking lots adjacent to the city’s Main Downtown Library, Police/Courts Building and Fire Administration Building, plus new parking garage adjacent to Chandler’s new City Hall.

Private parking garages on the east side of Arizona Avenue at Buffalo and Boston streets can accommodate another 1,000 vehicles. The Buffalo Street parking garage is located behind the Chandler Office Center (home of Western International University) at 55 N. Arizona Place and is accessed off of Buffalo St. The Boston St. parking garage is located behind the First Credit Union Building at 25 S. Arizona Place and can be accessed off of Boston St.

Hundreds of additional parking spaces are available on vacant City property located on the west side of Arizona Avenue between Chicago and Boston streets, plus spaces in and around San Marcos Place in Historic Downtown Chandler (see attached Parking Map). Parking for the disabled will be available on the northeast corner of Boston and Arizona Avenue; access the lot from Arizona Place, east of Arizona Avenue.

Arizona Avenue will be closed between Chandler Boulevard and Frye Road on Sat. Nov. 20 to play host to the City’s first-ever block party. The free-admission event will feature more than 100 vendors, free skating (1-8 p.m.), free photos with Santa (3-7 p.m.), free entertainment on a community stage, a climbing wall, bounce houses, mini classic car show, a showcase of downtown events, and a special Arizona Avenue dedication at noon.

Santa to appear at Achen-Gardner Downtown Chandler Block Party

CHANDLER, Ariz. – Santa will make a special appearance and pose for free photos from 3 to 7 p.m. at this Saturday’s Achen-Gardner Downtown Chandler Block Party.

The City’s first-ever block party begins at noon and ends at 8 p.m. and will be a wonderland of holiday activities for children and families with a skating rink, Dickens’ carolers, climbing wall, and Children’s Fun Zone filled with inflatable bounce houses.

Arizona Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic from Frye Road to Chandler Boulevard as the community is invited to experience the new look of downtown and dine, browse, shop and stroll along the usually busy thoroughfare. 

More than 100 vendors will be offering everything from Indian Fry Bread to jewelry and a community stage will feature live entertainment throughout the day. The performance schedule is:

Chandler Block Party the place to be for car enthusiasts

CHANDLER, Ariz. – Lovers of Corvettes, classics and current day Chevy’s won’t want to miss the Achen-Gardner Downtown Chandler Block Party to be held from noon to 8 p.m. on Sat. Nov. 20.

The Corvette Club of Arizona will display four generations of Corvettes and Thorobred Chevrolet, an event sponsor, will display the brand new Chevy Cruze and Camaro, plus an Equinox, Traverse and Chevrolet Silverado. Classic cars ranging from a ‘55 Chevrolet Bellaire, 65 Buick Riviera, and ‘81 Camaro will be on hand, courtesy of Chandler’s Annual Classic Car Show.

The car displays will be among the many family-friendly activities the public can enjoy as they dine, browse, shop and stroll along a half-mile stretch of Arizona Avenue that will be closed to traffic south of Chandler Boulevard.

The usually busy thoroughfare will come alive with an art market, food booths, live music, and entertainment. Children can enjoy a skating rink, climbing wall, inflatable village, Dickens carolers, and free pictures with Santa.

Mini-events will showcase the many festivals and events offered year-round downtown. Performances on a community stage will include Irish step dancers, jazz ensembles, steel drum players, Mexican and Filipino/Asian dance groups and a band playing '50s and '60s Rock-n-Roll.

The event was sparked by a desire to showcase Chandler’s refurbished downtown with brand new City Hall and streetscape improvements and will kick off the "Home for the Holiday's" season with the illumination of holiday lights.
